Tour Description:
Cenote Dos Ojos is one of the most iconic cenotes in the Riviera Maya, located between Tulum and Playa del Carmen. Its name, meaning “Two Eyes,” refers to the two side-by-side sinkholes connected by a vast underwater system. All dives start and end at the “First Eye,” giving access to two unique cavern routes: the scenic Barbie Line and the darker, more mysterious Bat Cave. The park offers convenient amenities such as showers, restrooms, gear tables, souvenir shops, and a snack bar, making it an ideal destination for a full day of diving.
Barbie Line – Shallow Cavern Diving at Dos Ojos Cenote
Barbie Line is one of the most popular cavern dive routes at Dos Ojos Cenote. This dive route is perfect for divers seeking a relaxed and visually stunning experience, thanks to its maximum depth of only 6–7 meters, excellent visibility, and extraordinary limestone formations.
The Barbie Line cavern dive follows a clearly marked guideline through crystal-clear water, passing through chambers filled with impressive stalactites, stalagmites, and columns. Sunlight filtering through the cenote’s ceiling openings creates surreal light effects, making this a top choice for underwater photographers. Halfway through the dive, divers will discover the origin of the route’s playful name.
With its calm conditions, world-class formations, and unforgettable beauty, Barbie Line at Dos Ojos is a must-do cavern dive for certified divers exploring the Yucatán Peninsula.
Bat Cave Dive – Explore the Darker Side of Dos Ojos Cenote
The Bat Cave dive at Dos Ojos Cenote offers a unique and slightly more adventurous alternative to the Barbie Line. This cavern dive is darker, a bit deeper, and gives you the thrilling sensation of being inside a true underwater cave—while still maintaining safe proximity to open water (never more than 20 meters away).
With a maximum depth of about 9 meters, the Bat Cave route takes you through a series of chambers and narrow passages adorned with stunning stalactites and stalagmites. The highlight of the dive is a visit to the actual Bat Cave, where you’ll surface into an air pocket and observe bats roosting above, hidden among the ancient rock formations.
This dive demands excellent buoyancy control, as the delicate speleothems (cave formations) can be easily damaged. The water is crystal clear, but the darker environment and intricate pathways make this a perfect dive for experienced cavern divers looking to explore beyond the basics.
If you’re ready for a more mysterious and awe-inspiring dive experience, Bat Cave at Dos Ojos is a must.
