Tour Description:

Explore Cenote Zapote & Maravilla near Playa del Carmen. Dive into crystal waters, see the rare Hell’s Bells formations, and enjoy a thrilling underwater adventure in Mexico’s hidden gems.

Cenote Zapote

Named after the zapote trees that grow around the area and is famously known among divers as "Hell’s Bells. "The park provides tables for setting up equipment, as well as showers and bathrooms for visitor convenience. It also includes two other cenotes for expert divers: Holbox and Kin Ha.

Zapote has a distinctive hourglass shape, with a surface diameter of about 30 meters that narrows to 15 meters before widening again. This narrow section is where you’ll find the dive site’s main attraction—the famous Hell’s Bells. Hundreds of these biothermal formations decorate the ceiling and walls, illuminated by a greenish light created by hydrogen sulfide, which gives the site its eerie name.

As you might expect, this is a deep dive suitable only for experienced divers.

Cenote Maravilla

This is another deep dive destination, featuring an opening approximately 90 meters wide and reaching depths of up to 60 meters. Along with stunning stalactites, Hell’s Bells, and the distinctive hydrogen sulfide cloud at 30 meters, the site is renowned for the breathtaking light displays created by the sun’s rays streaming through the ceiling opening. These spectacular light effects make Maravilla a must-visit spot, especially for underwater photography enthusiasts.

For longer bottom times, the use of Nitrox tanks is highly recommended.
